Welcome to Ahavah Ariel Sacred Arts: Ritual items honoring the Feminine Divine
Once upon a time I was the treasurer at a fledgling nonprofit that won two low power radio licenses from the FCC. We had to be on the air by a certain date - but we didn't have enough local programs lined up yet to fulfill our local programming mandate. So...several of us board members made some radio shows! My contribution was called "Kosher Cuisine" and there were 20 episodes in all. Two were interviews with local nonprofits featuring their great work in the community. A couple were just prerecorded music programs for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years when nobody would be at the station. And the rest were shows about Jewish cooking, holidays, music and history in several countries. As you may know, podcasts can't reproduce entire music tracks - just 45 second blurbs - due to royalty issues. So these podcasts don't have the entirety of the music, but they do always list the name of the artist and the album so you can find it. I have embedded the shows below, or you can find the whole list in one place at: https://soundcloud.com/search?q=kosher%20cuisine%20lexington I have transcripts of all of the shows available as well - if you would like a copy of the text including recipes of any show, email me at MissGayleCatering@gmail.com.
Moroccan Shabbat! Enjoy Kabbalat Shabbat in Sephardi style.
India and Sukkot! (Yes, there are Jews in India, lol.)
Greece and Chanukkah! (Hint, we won.)
Tu B'shvat in Israel! The original arbor day.
Persia and Purim! (We also won this one.)
Tikkun Olam - Food Justice! My first interview with a local nonprofit featuring Jeremy Porter from Seedleaf, which provides community gardens to food desert areas.
Passover - It's Complicated... If you thought regular kashrut was crazy, just wait.
Egypt and Passover! By the way, I recently bought a new book of Passover menus and recipes and it is AWESOME: Too Good to Passover (Sephardic & Judeo-Arabic Seder Menus and Memories from Africa, Asia and Europe) by Jennifer Felicia Abadi. Buy it!
Eastern Europe and Shavu'ot. Dairy dishes and Yitzak Pearlman - you can't go wrong.
PS - Podcast 9 was the Thanksgiving Music Only special which in podcast form is only a bunch of 45 second blurbs. Not worth posting.
Chanukkah O Chanukkah - Clogged arteries here we come!
L'Shanah Tovah! Happy Hebrew New Year!
Star Wars & Judaism Special - preachy on social justice, the probable time of the birth of Jesus, and far out Jewish mysticism mixed with quantum physics and John Williams' fabulous Star Wars soundtracks. It helps if you have a few drinks first. Nobody was listening anyway on Christmas, right?
New Year's Eve Holiday Cheer - Speaking of drinks, here are recipes for some! Yes, alcoholic.
Yom Kippur and Break the Fast - No, you can't eat on Yom Kippur, but there's a lot of cooking involved anyway.
Spain and the Sephardim - Or, you could just say proto-ladino food. That works.
Uber Food Safety - bacteria and cross contamination and food poisoning, oh my!
A German Sausage Fest - and beer, too.
Lebanon the Beautiful - and the food is good, too.
Tikkun Olam - an interview with Angela Baldridge, then executive director of The Plantory, a local eco friendly co-working space for small nonprofits doing all sorts of good in the world.
